Conclusion of the 13th Free Medical Camp for Cataract Removal and Lens Implantation in Az-Zahra District **Hodeidah, Az-Zahra, Al-Ma’ras, 8/2/205** In an atmosphere full of hope and joy, Grameen Yemen Foundation concluded yesterday, Friday, the activities of the 13th Free Medical Camp dedicated to cataract removal and lens implantation. This event was held at the Grameen Yemen Medical Center in Az-Zahra District, where the camp received many individuals suffering from visual impairment from various districts of Al-Hodeidah Governorate and neighboring governorates over the course of a whole week. This humanitarian event represented a real turning point in the lives of many who lived in the darkness of visual loss. A team of the most prominent ophthalmology consultants and surgeons in Yemen cooperated in this camp, led by Professor Yahya Al-Ghasali, Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Sana’a University and Head of the Examination Committee in the Scientific Council for Ophthalmology Specialization in Jordan. Professor Tawfiq Al-Khatib, Dr. Rafiq Al-Absi, and others with extensive experience in this field also participated in it. The camp concluded amidst an atmosphere of joy and happiness, as patients who regained their sight expressed feelings of reassurance after their operations. This initiative comes within the framework of efforts to address one of the most important aspects of poverty, which is the health dimension, as vision loss does not only affect individuals but also extends to their families and the entire community. During this camp, 318 patients underwent cataract removal and lens implantation surgeries, and medical examinations were conducted for about 1,500 people. In addition, operations were planned for 11 children in the best medical centers in the capital, Sana’a, where Grameen Yemen Foundation will bear all costs related to operations, transportation, housing and food. The success of this camp was a powerful message that reflects the meanings of humanity and solidarity, as Grameen Yemen Foundation has proven its ability to make a real difference in people’s lives. Restoring hope in the eyes is not just a medical procedure, but a step towards a brighter and more prosperous life.”

Water Intervention Projects and Waterborne Epidemic Prevention https://grameenyemen.org/en/water-intervention-projects-and-waterborne-epidemic-prevention/ https://grameenyemen.org/en/water-intervention-projects-and-waterborne-epidemic-prevention/#respond Mon, 24 Nov 2025 21:50:24 +0000 https://wataniscan-ye.com/grameen/?p=6922 In order to create a healthy environment, ensure a dignified life for poor families, and reduce the burden on households—while economically empowering women by enabling them to establish income-generating projects through gaining more time to contribute to sustainable livelihoods—interventions in vulnerable communities have become essential.

Poor and underserved areas often provide a fertile environment for the spread of diseases and epidemics, particularly in hot regions. The northern districts of Al-Hodeidah are among the areas most affected, where fevers such as dengue and malaria are widespread. Waterborne diseases, including cholera and all types of diarrhea, are also prevalent due to the use of stagnant and contaminated water, commonly stored in uncovered containers and vessels.

Water Wells Drilling Initiative

The Foundation contributes to providing safe drinking water through drilling water wells, with the aim of creating a healthy environment and ensuring a dignified life for poor families. This intervention reduces the burden on children who previously walked long distances searching for water, thereby encouraging them to attend school. It also economically empowers women by giving them more time to engage in livelihood activities and build income-generating projects.

:Project Coverage

Intervention Areas: 21 villages
Number of Wells: 21
Number of Beneficiaries: Approximately 1,200 individuals
Project Cost: 8,100,000 (based on the latest proposal)

Water Storage Tanks and Filtration Systems

Grameen Yemen worked to meet the needs of poor families by providing safe water storage solutions, including water tanks that allow households to store water in a healthy and hygienic manner. This intervention helps protect families from infectious diseases that threaten their health, environment, and overall well-being, while also eliminating harmful and unsafe water storage practices.

In addition, ceramic and biosand filters were distributed to purify and treat water, ensuring that families have access to clean and safe drinking water—thereby safeguarding the health of the most vulnerable communities.

Adult Literacy and Education https://grameenyemen.org/en/adult-literacy-and-education/ https://grameenyemen.org/en/adult-literacy-and-education/#respond Mon, 24 Nov 2025 21:39:03 +0000 https://wataniscan-ye.com/grameen/?p=6917 due to its close connection with various social and developmental issues—particularly among women—where it has deeply affected learning, as well as cognitive and emotional development.

The Foundation has contributed to addressing this issue by establishing adult literacy classes for rural women, aiming to improve their reading and writing skills. These classes are provided with educational curricula and all necessary learning materials to achieve sustainable development, eradicate ignorance, and improve overall quality of life.

Learning how to write and sign their names is considered a fundamental requirement for beneficiaries to receive financial support from the Foundation. Therefore, the Foundation’s staff members teach women how to write and sign their names on all financial documents and transactions with the institution.

Primary Education https://grameenyemen.org/en/primary-education/ https://grameenyemen.org/en/primary-education/#respond Mon, 24 Nov 2025 21:31:37 +0000 https://wataniscan-ye.com/grameen/?p=6914 The poor in rural areas live under extremely difficult conditions that have begun to threaten the future of children’s education. Many families are unable to enroll their children in school, forcing them into the labor market due to harsh living circumstances and the need to support their families in securing basic necessities such as food and water. This situation risks producing generations deprived of even the minimum level of education—thereby perpetuating the cycle of poverty.

In an effort to encourage school enrollment and prevent children from dropping out, Grameen Yemen Foundation has provided school supplies and textbooks for primary school students who are children of the Foundation’s members. This initiative aims to combat school dropout and support children’s continuous access to education.
