Health Projects – GramenYemen

Health Projects

Health Projects

In light of the unstable situations the country is experiencing—where poverty spreads, living conditions worsen, disease and epidemics increase, and unemployment rises—the condition of poor families continues to deteriorate. This reality requires urgent humanitarian intervention aimed at improving health conditions and achieving development across marginalized areas. Grameen Yemen Foundation has shown great interest in combating blindness through comprehensive interventions, including the provision of modern medical equipment to perform cataract extraction surgeries and lens implantation.
In addition, Grameen implements surgical operations for children in cooperation with the Saudi German Hospital – Sana’a, especially surgeries for children with congenital deformities and other conditions. These interventions contribute to enabling children to integrate into society, break away from isolation, and return to school. After conducting these surgeries, children reintegrate into their communities and are empowered to return to education.

Cataract Removal and Lens Implantation Camps

Grameen Yemen Foundation seeks to improve health conditions in rural areas by providing assistance to thousands of poor individuals through several health programs and projects.
Given the current circumstances—where poverty spreads, living conditions worsen, and diseases increase—the situation of poor families becomes increasingly difficult, especially those suffering from cataracts and visual impairments that prevent them from performing daily activities. For this reason, Grameen Yemen implemented several notable initiatives, including the establishment of Grameen Medical Center for Eye Surgery and the organization of numerous cataract surgery camps.

A new cataract surgery camp was launched at the Grameen Eye Surgery Center in the Al-Maress area of Al-Zohrah District. The center was equipped with the most modern surgical devices, including the Phaco system—the most advanced technology for cataract removal globally. A specialized medical team was assigned under the supervision of an ophthalmologist, and the camp’s activities extended until April 30, 2025.

The camp included free surgical operations for cataract removal and lens implantation, distribution of medicines, and postoperative follow-up through professional medical staff. It also provided free medications necessary for treatment based on medical diagnosis.

Cleft Lip Surgeries

Cleft lip is considered one of the most common congenital deformities in newborns and represents a significant health, psychological, and social challenge for affected children and their families.
Children suffering from facial deformities face bullying, emotional difficulties, and communication challenges, which affects their educational and social life.

Through humanitarian partnerships, including cooperation with the Saudi German Hospital, Grameen Yemen successfully performed surgical interventions for many children suffering from cleft lip.
These surgeries transformed the lives of dozens of affected children and their families, enabling them to integrate into society, return to school, and live normal lives. Following surgery, children regained confidence, improved their appearance, and overcame the psychological and social barriers caused by the deformity. The medical team also provided postoperative follow-up and medication to ensure proper healing.
